Dear Denee

August 11, 2015 in Letters

Dear Sweet, Motivated, Hopeful Girl –

When I look at you, I see innocence, ambition and a naïve hope for a perfect world.

You don’t yet know it, but God blessed you with great vision.

You have the ability to see the world, digest it’s beauty and in turn, create things that inspire people.  This ability is not to be taken lightly.  if you foster it appropriately,  it will transcend in so many areas of your life.

I want you to slow down.  There is no rush; not in life, not in success, not in love.  There is a greater vision for your path.  You don’t have to control it; just trust your instincts and your wisdom; learn a little bit of patience and follow where God leads you.

You have a spirit of generosity; you are strengthened when you give to those whom you love.  And oh, when you love, you love HARD!  Through this unconditional, overwhelming love you sometimes, to a flaw, give too much and need too much.  Be careful with whom you share your love.  This is your gem; precious and fragile.  Only to be shared with those who have character of royalty and intentions of gold.

I look at you and I am amazed.  I’m amazed at how you dedicate yourself to the things that you adore… almost to an obsession.  You have a passion for art; you love photography, scrapbooking, creating things.  When I look at you now, I want to tell you to focus!  Focus on that passion.  Focus on what you love. Don’t be lazy and don’t worry about the things that you think that you are missing…  In the end, what is meant to be yours will be.  Never stop creating.  It feeds your soul.

You are insecure; but you mask it well.  You are not sure of your intellect, or your presence, or your ability to lead and change the world.  I want to tell you that you have it all.  Don’t be afraid to go after what you want.  Don’t be afraid to demand what is rightfully yours.  You do not have to apologize for being strong, for seeking to win or for pursuing the best.  You are a woman of standards who not only seeks the best, but deserves the best.  Don’t settle.  Not in career, not in shopping and definitely not in men!

I wish you knew what love truly was.  That love is not only emotional, but that it is smart, it is ambitious and it builds you.  If only you knew your worth so that you did not waste your time with those that did not meet your standards. You have a bigger mission.  It is to create; to be inspired and to inspire.  To build a life that reflects the lessons of your experiences.

In the end, I want you to live by these words, instill them in every decision that you make in your life; big or small; “timing is everything.  You don’t need to rush your garden to grow.  Your life will be fruitful in due time; and with hard work you will reap the love that you sow.  Beautiful things come to us when we accept who we are, where we are and how God is working.  Wait it out, your turn is near."

Loving You Flawlessly,
Self

I first met Denee when I started out my career at L'Oreal in 2011 (she and Ro were my bosses and we became a little family). This exact week two years ago, we were preparing the launch of a beautiful brand with Michelle Phan - em Cosmetics. We traveled the world over and developed a bond that we will never forget as 'sisters'. Denee is the most fabulous person you'll meet in our building - she has an incredibly vibrant spirit and is always full of joy!
